Walk/Bike/Carpool With Your Child. It’s Fun!
The Traffic Safety team is preparing to present our Golden Sneaker award to three classrooms that have the most number of walkers/bikers/carpoolers in September. We will conduct a raffle during assembly on Wednesday October 9 (our walk and roll to school day) to choose our first three winning classrooms. So walk/bike/scooter/carpool atleast five days in September, turn in your mileage tracker form and your classroom will be entered in our raffle. Be sure to write your child’s name and room number on the form. The form can be found on the last page of the September Voice,
Plus, all our green commuters who green commute atleast five days a month through September, October and November and turn in their mileage tracker forms, will be entered in another raffle in December to win some really cool bike accessories. So let’s leave those cars at home and try and green commute at least five days this month. It’s good for your child and great for the environment.

Please drop the mileage tracker forms in the ‘traffic safety bin’ in the office by Monday, September 30.

California Pizza Kitchen – FUNdraiser

September 18th and 19th are Palo Verde Fundraiser Nights at California Pizza Kitchen, Cowper Street. Take a break from the kitchen on either of these nights and head to CPK with your family for some good food while socializing with other families from Palo Verde!  This fun restaurant will donate 20% of gross receipts from Palo Verde families to our school.  Look for a flyer in the Friday folder.  CPK is located at 531 Cowper Street in Palo Alto.

Cornerstone Corner at Palo Verde
September’s ABC book:  “Friends to the End for Kids: The True Value of Friendship” by Bradley Trevor Greive uses engaging photos of animals to illustrate how to make friends, keep friends, and the importance of friends.

Goals of lesson:
* To help all students learn how to respect each other and to develop stronger interpersonal skills.
* To have students explore ways to be UPstanders.

To reinforce this lesson at home:
* Share some stories about your own friendships.
* Here are some questions you can discuss with your child:
* What do you like most about your friends?
* Do they bring out the best in you?
* Do you bring out the best in them?
* How do you show your friends that you care about them?
* How do your friends handle conflict when it arises?
When you “catch” kids modeling positive behaviors…
Notice, Name it, and Celebrate it!

Donate a Gathering! Fall Party Book Deadline on Monday
While we’ve heard some buzz about donating Fall Party Book gatherings, we’re a bit behind our target with only 5 firm events. We’d love to have at least 20 so that everyone in our community who wants to participate in an event this fall and winter has a chance to do so.

So, grab a friend (or two or three!) and submit information on your event, activity, gathering or party by Monday, September 23. Simply email pvfallpartybook@gmail.com or contact Callie Turk, Rebecca Thompson, or Maxine Warren with the details of the event, including:  Description, Preferred Date & Time, Hosts, # of Guests, Host(s) Phone & Email.

We plan to sell Fall Party Book tickets at the Harvest Fair on October 13th – please consider hosting an event or activity!
