Carpool to School Website Coming on Feb 6

The traffic safety team is pleased to announce that Palo Verde is becoming part of an increasing network of carpoolers. On February 6, the carpool to school day, we will have access to our own carpooltoschool.com web portal which we can use to arrange carpools/walk and bike groups with other Palo Verde families not just to school but to other extra curricular activities.
Some of the highlights of the site are
1) Site access is free for Palo Verde’s enrolled families
2) It is secure; the traffic safety team comprising of Anjani Sarma and Silvie Pierce will approve requests for access to the site by cross-referencing users with this year’s school directory . Only currently enrolled families will be provided with access to the site.
3) The site is very easy to use and the built in features like the interactive map, calendar, text-messaging enable you to find out carpoolers who live near you and who want to commute pool to the same activities as you.

Please check next week’s Friday folders for more information on how to sign up and use the site.

And remember Wednesday February 6, is our Carpool/Commute Pool to School Day. Please share a ride to school or walk/bike to school. It is good for the environment and more importantly, it is good for you.

PiE Campaign Finale – 500 Families Needed for $50,000 Challenge That Ends January 31st !

January 31 is your last chance to donate to Palo Alto schools through the Palo Alto Partners in Education (PiE) Foundation’s annual campaign. Through a new “500 for $50,000” challenge grant, our schools will receive $50,000 more if 500 families who have not yet donated to PiE make their donation by January 31st. This is your chance to get involved and make a big difference for education. With only two weeks to go, PiE is still almost $1 million short of its campaign goal. Only PIE funds can pay for the additional staff needed in our schools including: specialists, classroom aides, Spectra Art, enrichment, guidance counselors, and college and career counselors each year. If you are one of the families who has already supported PiE, thank you so much! If you have not yet given, please give before January 31. You can drop your check in the office, or go online and give at www.papie.org/donate. Please join the many families across the district that want a better education than public funding can provide, and give to PiE today.

Questions? Contact your PiE chairs or PiE Executive Director Kathy Schroeder at: kschroeder@papie.org or call 329-3990. Thank you!

From Last Week

Donate to the 2013 Palo Verde Auction

Once again, plans are underway to create an evening that is full of fun, friends, and raises important funds for Palo Verde. We hope you mark your calendars for Saturday, March 23rd at Ming’s Restaurant. While a large team of volunteers are gathering donations from businesses near and far, Palo Verde families are also rising to the occasion of making this auction a huge success.
Donate a Party or Event: As a host you can throw a fun party or gathering, connect our community, and raise money for our students – all in one effort! Grab a friend and co-host an event this spring or in August once school starts again. Kid-only and family oriented events as well as events limited to grown-ups are welcome. Past hosts, please tell friends how rewarding and fun it is to host an event and encourage them to step up this year.

Donate an Item or Service: We are on the look-out for donations of services (home cooked meals, dessert-a-month, tech support), event tickets, unique experiences (lunch at a “cool” company or a round of golf at your private club), and destination and travel items. Vacation homes and time shares are especially well received.
If you would like to donate to the auction, we would love to hear from you by Friday, February 8th. Contact Callie Turk (callieturk(at)gmail(dot)com) and Rebecca Thompson (rebeccaherrema(at)hotmail(dot)com) to lock up your event date or provide details of your donation.

The Princess and the Pea Visits Palo Verde

Palo Verde is pleased to participate this year in the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre Outreach Residency Program. For more than 30 years, this program has provided elementary school children with a unique opportunity to experience the world of theater at their school sites.

More than 30 Palo Verde students, grades 3 through 5, are working hard to bring an exciting performance of the Princess and the Pea to our school. The actors and crew members would like to invite you and your family to come and enjoy this highly entertaining version of the Hans Christian Andersen short story. Click here  for more details.

We hope to see you there!
