Palo Verde and PTA News

Attention parents/guardians of students under the age of 8.

Starting on Jan. 1, young passengers aged 6 and 7 are required to ride in a booster seat in any vehicle, unless they are at least 4 feet 9 inches tall. As with the previous booster seat law, the fine for a first offense is $100 and $250 for a second offense, but penalty assessments will push the cost of that ticket to $446 for a first offense or over $1,000 for a second offense.

Homework Policy Discussion on January 11 MP Room, 8:15 am

PAUSD district is in the process of revising the district Homework Policy. The district homework committee is seeking input from all PAUSD stakeholders, which includes the families, students and staff of Palo Verde Elementary School. Please plan on joining me on Wednesday, January 11, at 8:15 in our MP room during the monthly principal’s coffee to take part in an activity that will allow you to provide the district with your input regarding homework. Paula Watson and Lisa Swaggerty will be leading the discussion. Together we will compile information about the homework appropriateness and effectiveness. Now is your time to let your voice be heard regarding your thoughts about homework.

All Aboard the Passport to Fun

March 3, 2012 is the date to mark on your calendars for Palo Verde’s spring social and auction.  This year the Palo Verde Travel Agency (aka the PTA) will issue your “Passport to Fun” at Michael’s at Shoreline.  This event is your ticket to an adult evening of fun and entertainment and a great chance to get to know and enjoy other Palo Verde parents over food, drink, and music; all while doing something great for Palo Verde kids and staff to boot.

Want tickets to see Cirque du Soleil’s “O” in Las Vegas?  A year’s supply of Rick’s ice cream?  A winery tour and tasting for you and 30 of your closest friends?  A getaway at the Rosewood Hotel at Sandhill complete with two massages at the spa?  These are just a few of the goodies already waiting for you at this fun evening — there will be dozens more to chose from!  Look for your invitation and a detailed catalog of items in February.

To join the team creating this event, please contact the auction co-chairs, Emily and George Jaquette (ebreuner at gmail dot com).

Attention Party Planners – Be Part of the Spring Party Line-up!

One of the most popular places at our March 3rd, 2012 Passport to Fun spring social and auction will be near the Palo Verde party bid sheets where you can bid on spots for yourself or your kids in one of many unique social and creative gatherings hosted by our families.  Today isyour chance to step up and host one of those parties!
Memorable events last year included a rocking Bollywood Dance Party, a kids-only Stomp Rocket Party, and a multi-house Progressive Fiesta Dinner.  A Sushi Rolling party hosted at the Eichler clubhouse had an eight-year run and the Steaks and Stakes Poker Tournament is headed into a fifth year as a Palo Verde tradition.

As a host you get to throw a fun party, help connect our community and raise money for our students – all in one event! Grab a friend and co-host a party!  Contact Rebecca Thompson (rebeccaherrema at hotmail dot com) with details or to reserve your party date between March and summer! Deadline is January 20th!
