Operation Gratitude is here in the Bay Area and will be sending 60,000 care packages to the soldiers in Iraq for the holidays…. THEY NEED YOUR CANDY and are willing to buy it from you. All you have to do is take your candy to a participating dentist office, then they ship the candy to the soldiers, who are happy to get the sweet treats to eat, or use as a goodwill gesture to share where they are deployed. You can trade that “unwanted” candy for $1/pound, or choose to get dental health gift bags for your kids. To learn more about the organization, and find an office near you, go to www.halloweencandybuyback.com.
With the cold mornings and warm afternoons, our Lost and Found is overflowing with coats and sweaters. Some nice ones, too! Please take a look and claim your belongings. They will be donated before the December holiday break. Also sitting in the bin unclaimed are lunch boxes, thermoses, hats, bike helmets, and a Razor scooter. To help get your belongings back to your family faster, please label them.
Girl Scouts is a well established organization ( almost 100 yrs. old ); there are a lot of training classes, on-line and in person, and other volunteers who could share their successes (and failures) to help learn how to be a Girl Scout Leader. There is a great amount of flexibility in scheduling meetings and events according to what works for the families of your Girl Scout troop.
Girl Scouts has a whole catalog of already-organized events a troop can sign up for so it was more of a scheduling of events than actual figuring out what to do and when J. Some favorites have been visiting the tide pools at Pillar Point/ Half Moon Bay, camping with other Girl Scout troops, the annual Ice Skating Party at Winter Lodge and most recently the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk overnight. Darcy Huston, the Girl Scouts coordinator for Palo Alto, would be glad to meet with/talk to any person who would potentially like to start a troop and share more specifics and answer any questions to help get a troop started.
